The project management plan is the main document that specifies how a project will be executed, monitored, controlled, and ultimately closed.

It integrates and consolidates all management plans, baselines and other information from the subsidiaries necessary to manage the project.

Subsidiary management plans:

These are a kind of mini-plans that cover specific parts of the project:

Scope Management Plan – Defines what is and is not included in your project.
Requirements Management Plan – Describes how you will gather and manage project requirements.
Planning Plan – This shows how the timeline is structured.
Cost Management Plan – This describes how you estimate and manage costs.
Quality Management Plan – Ensures you meet quality standards.
Resource Management Plan – Manage your team and other resources.
Communications Management Plan – Determines how information is shared within the team.
Risk Management Plan – Identifies and manages potential risks.
Purchasing Management Plan – Concerns supplier selection and contracts.
Stakeholder Engagement Plan – Keeps your stakeholders engaged and satisfied.

Basic lines:

Baselines are the standards or benchmarks used to measure performance throughout the project:

Scope Baseline – Defines the approved project scope.
Baseline Planning – This sets the timeline against which you track progress.
Cost Baseline – Determines the budget for the project.

Additional components:

These are the elements that tie everything together:

Change Plan – How changes are handled.
Configuration Management Plan – Tracking versions and configurations.
Performance Measurement – Key metrics for monitoring progress.
Project Lifecycle – The phases your project goes through.
Development Approach – Whether you use Agile, Waterfall or another method.
Project Governance – Who makes the decisions and how.
Customization – Adapting the approach to the needs of your project.
In short, the Project Management Plan is your all-encompassing guide to effectively managing your project from start to finish.
