An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required when insight is required into the extent to which a large or complex infrastructure or development project can damage or increase the landscape value. An EIA may be required following a pre-application for an EIA screening advice from the Council.
EIAs take into account different facets of a landscape, including its historical and archaeological aspect.
They are made mandatory by the Town and Planning Regulations 2011 for Schedule 1 projects and can also be applied for by a local planning authority for Schedule 2 type projects following project screening and scoping.
