Here are some thoughts on why students should learn how to manage content.

We live in a world of instant information. At the touch of a button we can read articles, watch videos, listen to podcasts and have a quick conversation about anything.

The traditional gatekeepers have disappeared, which is nice for students. They can create and share their work in ways previously unthinkable.

But there are costs involved.

If we are not careful, we confuse the speed of consumption with the depth of knowledge.

And that's why we need students to learn the art of curation.

Curators ask thoughtful questions
and find sources that are accurate and interesting

They look for the content, find the most important points and give meaning to ideas

As this happens, curators organize the content into categories or themes.

They make connections between seemingly opposing artists, ideas, or disciplines in a way that makes you think, "Man, I've never thought about that before."

They can also determine trends from multiple sources

They add their own unique lens that they share with an audience.
