What is the best calorie counting app?

Counting your calories is a good way to ensure you maintain a calorie deficit.

There are plenty of apps to help you get started, but our Body Smart customers all use @myfitnesspal.

If you're tracking your calories and not losing weight, I hate to say it, but you're not in a deficit and probably not tracking accurately.

Here are some things to keep in mind…

️Track your calories before you eat:
Weigh and record your food as you prepare it to ensure you're entering accurate measurements.

This will also help you see how many calories you are consuming BEFORE you eat. If you add calories afterwards, you run the risk of eating more than your allowance without realizing it.

Make sure your app data is correct:
All calorie counting apps may have inaccurate data entered.

Compare the nutritional values on your food packaging with the information in the app to ensure they match and that you are tracking accurately.

‍️Don't eat back training calories:
Some apps adjust your reimbursement based on the amount of exercise your smartwatch or fitness tracker says you've done.

‼ The problem is that most tracking devices are quite inaccurate when it comes to exercise, which means you could be eating back calories you didn't earn.

Disable this in your app settings to ensure you're sticking to the correct calorie limits.
